Wednesday 28th August - walk **** – Fingeringhoe Nature Reserve – Sunny and hot.

I have been waiting for a lightwind day for sometime so we could head over to Fluid Lines in Colchester to pick-up my replacement windsurf foil after the mast broke and I lost it in the sea off Felixstowe, I was impressed with Starboard who replaced it all at a very good price:) We decided to make a day of it in Essex so after doing my exercises early in the back garden while Mag did some planting new stuff I packed a picnic and we headed off into deepest Essex around 10.30. With the new foil bought we head over to one of our favourites, Fingeringhoe Wick Nature Discovery Park, a nature reverse run by Essex Wildlife Trust:) As it was hot we got a top parking spot under some trees and left our lunch in the van to have after our walk. We did our usual route around the reserve taking in all the bird hides overlooking the River Colne with views to Brightlingsea and East Mersea. With the tide low there were a few waders about including curlews, a few lapwings and gull to add to the marsh harrier and kingfisher we spotted earlier! There were loads of different dragonflies flitting about but boy was it hot for walking! After the Kingfisher bird hide, sadly no kingfishers here only swan, little grebes, lapwings and geese we turned inland coming out near the big lake and back to the van for our picnic under the shady tree. We then take the Rowhedge road back to Colchester stopping opposite Wivenhoe for a few pics and home pretty knackered but another top day and I was well chuffed to get one of today's pics on BBC’s Look East, I have had a good month for TV pics with 8 being used:)
